Dia de los Muertos Masks at Mas Tacos

Dia de los Muertos Masks at Mas Tacos

Crafts, Language & Culture, Visual Arts

Come celebrate Dia de los Muertos at Mas Tacos Por Favor! In this two-day workshop, we will be using paper mache and paint to create a fun mask to wear and display!

  • Day 1: Create your mask. We will use primarily recycled and repurposed materials such as egg cartons and paper plates to form the base of the mask. Wheat paste and newspaper will be used to paper mache the masks. You can create a skull, a bull, a devil, an old man, a frog... anything that you can imagine! The masks will need to dry over night.

  • Day 2: Come ready to paint! You can decorate your mask with paint, sequins and feathers, and then hang around to hear great music and eat delicious tacos.

Materials will be provided... along with a delicious taco and agua fresca from Mas Tacos on the second day!

Each ticket is valid for one mask/taco/drink. Parents and their children may use the same ticket, and share a mask/taco/drink. Alternatively, if families wish to make multiple masks, and enjoy multiple tacos/drinks, multiple tickets may be purchased. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks!

About the teacher: Celia Rose

Celia Rose recently relocated to Nashville from Guanajuato, Mexico where she formed part of Editorial EnComa, Artistas Clausurados and Colectivo TAN 473. She taught art classes at the Clausurado shop and with TAN 473 she helped create and instruct workshops and summer programs for the girls at the Buen Pastor orphanage. She recently returned from Colorado College where she was invited to give a workshop on the creative process.

Celia Rose is currently part of the bandits of Más Tacos in East Nashville and, when not cutting and pasting in her basement loft, or tending to her cacti and strawberry plants, she divvies her time up between reading and water aerobics at East Park Community Center.
